When children die, where do their dreams go?

When tanks smash their toys and blood stains their paintings, how can they deal with the trauma of war? When guilt triumphs over innocence, what is left behind?

Assembled by the The Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications, the “Bulletproof Dreams: Gaza Child Painters’ Exhibition” is a powerful documentation that spans from the naive fantasies of children to the harsh realities of occupation in the wake of the war. Through unfiltered candor and with a purity free of aesthetic concerns , the children of Gaza who lost their homes, hopes, families, and future in 2009 during Operation Cast Lead express their heartbreaking tales on paper, which the world ignored.

Gaza is burning, can anyone help?

At the focal point of the exhibition are the pictures of 6-year-old little Mona and the portrait of First Lady Emine Erdoğan drawn by Maysa Yousuf from Gaza. The paintings of Mona portray her mother, who was slain in front of her, with the innocence of a little kid, highlighting the struggles of Gazan children deprived of their human rights and their childhood. On the other hand, the portrait of First Lady Emine Erdoğan weeping for the Gazan children illustrates how she managed to touch hearts in distant geographies and bring hope to oppressed innocents thousands of kilometers away.

This exhibition will take you on a journey into the lives, stories, and pain of Gazan children, some of whom are no longer with us; here, their innocence and dreams will live on freely, just as every child deserves a fair world.
